¡Viva Santa Cruz!

As the title makes clear, I am in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. We got here yesterday (later than we had planned) After New Years the skies opened up and I experienced the most torrential rain of my life. The streets filled up with water and all the mud and garbage flowed by in a huge river. We were waiting for our bus-taxi to leave but we couldn´t because there was water halfway up the tires of the van. This all happened in the space of 5 minutes.
We drove from Camiri to Santa Cruz on this twisty road with cows and goats wandering across in the pouring rain. It was one of the scariest experiences of my life because the driver couldn´t see, I couldn´t see, and we kept hydroplaning.
Anyways, I´ll tell you a bit about my future plans. Tomorrow or the next day I am leaving Santa Cruz for Uruguay! I am so excited. I talked to Bethania and Juan Pablo the other day and I am going to stay with both of them at some point. I´m going to be there for two weeks and then to Cuzco. I´m very excited also because I have found Santa Cruz and Camiri to be hard places. The young people I have met are very concerned about their appearance. I have seen more anorexically skinny girls here than I have seen in a long time. They get all dressed up for things that I would never get dressed up for. I think it would have been a really hard place to be for 3 months and I think we are all in agreement that we are glad that the program worked out the way it did. Anyways, I will update again soon. I love you all!
